Unit Code: MEA306(AGRI-L3)`

Unit Name: Applied Materials

Description: The purpose of this course is to enable the development of the elementary safety, knowledge and skills required for using and understanding the application of materials in engineering. This course focuses on the application of materials to the concept of material structures, classification, properties, material testing, hot working process, cold working processes and the heat treatment processes. All topics are illustrated through theoretical and laboratory exercises.

Learning Target Outcomes: 1. Classifying engineering materials into natural and man-made, metals and non-metals, ferrous and non-ferrous metals. 2. Apply knowledge of the principles of basic manufacturing processes of iron and steel production. 3. Describe the physical, mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties of metals and alloys. 4. Select materials and combinations of materials for specific tasks and state reasons for selection. 5. Demonstrates the mechanisms of various types of corrosion and methods of surface protection of steels.
